Edition 4 | JUNE 2026

Quick question: how many marketing tabs do you currently have open in your brain?
AI. Social media. Google. Content. SEO. Ads. Exactly.
If you've been wondering where to focus your time, energy and marketing dollars, this month's edition is for you.
Search Engine Marketing (SEM):
Are Customers Finding You...
or Your Competitors?
When someone needs a product or service today, what do they do?
They Google it.
The question is: when they search, do they find your business or someone else's?
That's where Search Engine Marketing (SEM) comes in.
In simple terms, SEM is paid advertising on search engines like Google. It helps put your business in front of people who are actively looking for the products or services you offer, often at the exact moment they're ready to buy.
Many business owners are surprised to learn there are actually two ways to show up in search results:
SEM (Search Engine Marketing) uses paid ads to get immediate visibility.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) helps your website rank organically over time.
Both have a role to play, but if you're relying solely on referrals, social media or word-of-mouth, there's a chance potential customers are searching for what you offer and finding a competitor instead.
Quick Check: Open Google and search for the products or services you provide in your area. Do you appear on the first page?

Three Marketing Trends We Heard
Repeatedly This Month
Social media is evolving at a dizzying pace. New features, new platforms, AI, changing algorithms and shifting consumer behaviour can make it difficult to know where to focus your time, energy and marketing dollars.
Over the past few weeks, we found ourselves having many of the same conversations in different rooms. Some happened during our Marketing Momentum webinar, How to Use Organic Social Media Strategically in 2026.
Others took place at SocialWest, Canada's largest marketing conference. The common thread? A few key themes kept coming up again and again.
1. People don't remember content. They remember moments.
We're all consuming more content than ever before. What stands out isn't always what we see, but how a brand makes us feel. The businesses creating connection, trust and community are the ones people remember.
2. The future of marketing isn't more content. It's more human.
AI is changing how content is created, but authenticity still matters. The brands winning attention are the ones sharing expertise, personality and genuine human connection.
3. You don't need to be everywhere.
Effective marketing isn't about reaching everyone. It's about reaching the right people. Focus on the platforms where your audience already spends time and engages.
Quick Tip: If social media feels overwhelming, stop asking, "Which platform should I be on?" and start asking, "Where are my customers?"
Interestingly, these same themes fuelled strong attendance and discussion during our recent webinar, reinforcing what we're hearing from business owners every day: most aren't looking for more tactics. They're looking for clarity. The good news? You don't need to chase every trend. Focus on connection, consistency and relevance, and you'll be ahead of many businesses already.
The Cost of Guessing

Podcasts are having a moment, and for good reason. They're one of the easiest ways to learn something new while driving, walking the dog or tackling the never-ending to-do list.
If you haven't been tuning into Cinch Academy, you've been missing some pretty candid conversations about what's actually happening in marketing right now.
Our latest episode, Marketing in an Uncertain Economy, tackles a challenge many businesses are facing: how to keep growing when budgets are tighter, costs are rising and every marketing decision feels a little more important.
One insight that stood out?
More leads won't fix a broken conversion path.
The conversation explores where marketing dollars are often wasted, why posting more isn't always the same as marketing better and how to identify opportunities that can deliver a bigger impact without increasing your budget.
For business owners looking for more clarity and less guesswork, the conversation provides a fresh perspective on where to invest, where to optimize and where to stop wasting time and money.
